'STRIPEY' TERMINOLOGY

of the

International Zebra - Zorse - Zonkey Association

The IZZZA has adopted the following terminologies for zebra hybrids:

Stripey
is the general term given any zebra, zorse or zonkey, as a term of endearment and general identity, but not as a formal identifying term. This term is not used on the registration certificates.**

Zorse
is the resulting hybrid cross between a zebra and a horse and the term is used for all zebra/horse hybrid crosses within the registry. The resulting offspring can be either male or female. This term is used on the registration certificates.**

Zony
is the resulting hybrid cross of a zebra and a pony. A zony is defined by being over 38" tall, but under 13 hands (52 inches). This term is used on the registration certificates.**

Miniature Zorse
is the resulting hybrid cross of a zebra and a miniature horse which produces offspring under 38" tall. The association does not recommend anyone attempt this cross without consulting reproductive experts with relation to the size differential and the problems that could occur by breeding a miniature horse mare to a zebra stallion. The association recommends using embryo transfer into a pony mare equal to the size of the stallion. This term will be used on the registration certificates. There are currently no miniature zorses registered with the IZZZA.**

Zinny
is the defined term of a zorse which has been bred by crossing a horse stallion with a zebra mare. The resulting offspring can be either male or female. The 'zinny' is a very rare hybrid, as most horse stallions will not breed a zebra mare, and most zebra mares will not allow a horse stallion to breed her. This term is not used on the registration certificates.**

Zonkey
is the resulting hybrid cross of a zebra and a donkey. This term is used on the registration certificates.**

Miniature Zonkey
is the resulting hybrid cross of a zebra and a miniature donkey to be defined by being under 40" tall. The Association does not recommend anyone attempt this cross without consulting reproductive experts to determine whether the size differential may cause foaling problems in the donkey jennet. This term will be used on the registration certificates. There are currently no miniature zonkeys registered with the IZZZA.**

**Other Occasional Terms Not Intended To be Used by the IZZZA include : Z-donk, Zdonk, Zeedonk, Zebroid, and any other floating terminology that is not on the above list.
